No one injured when train, semi collide

A semi was struck by a train south of Franklin after police said the semi driver failed to stop at a stop sign.

The semi driver, Thomas Kasting, 66, of Franklin, drove past the stop sign at the railroad crossing on County Road 250S near Old U.S. 31. Once the driver saw he was not going to beat the train across the crossing, he attempted to back up, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

The crossing is marked with a stop sign.

The train hit the front of the semi, damaging the engine cover, bumper and engine compartment, the report said.

No one was injured in the crash.
