Center Grove family raising money to aid fight against cancer

A Center Grove area family is participating in a statewide fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in memory of a loved one who died.

The family of Joe Saba invites the public to join their team or donate to the upcoming Light The Night Walk, planned for Saturday, as a way to honor Saba and raise money for a cure.

Saba was a longtime Center Grove area resident who was heavily involved in Center Grove youth sports. He was also a longtime employee of the Daily Journal, having worked as a press operator, then an advertising representative. He died of leukemia in January 2015.

The family raised nearly $4,600 in 2015 and is asking for donations again this year. The money goes to research of blood cancer treatments. The society’s mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

During the upcoming event at Victory Field, walkers carry illuminated lanterns.
