Cathy Jo Callahan (Stroud) Hayes

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.

Cathy Jo Callahan (Stroud) Hayes passed away on Sept. 10, 2016, at her home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with her daughter at her side.

She had fought a hard battle with cancer for many years, beginning with kidney cancer in 2011. Heaven certainly received another angel. She will be greatly missed.

Cathy was born March 16, 1952, in Bedford. She lived in the surrounding areas until 1965, when the family moved to Greenwood. She graduated from Center Grove High School in 1970.

Cathy married Michael B. Hayes (now deceased) in 1972 and moved to Tennessee.

In early years, Cathy ran a daycare out of their home in Lavergne, Tennessee, and fulfilled her lifelong desire to provide patient loving care and guidance to children, including her own two children.

She attended and taught Sunday school at the Lavergne Presbyterian church. She later moved with her children to Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1989.

She worked 24 years for Blue Care Network, retiring in 2014, due to health reasons.

Survivors include her parents, Nancy J. and Russell V. Stroud of Shoals; two children, Kevin (Jackie) Hayes and Kimberly (Danny) Hall; four grandchildren, Daris, Kasandra and Liliana Hall, and Auryn (Ali) Hayes, all of Michigan. Siblings include a sister, Vicky (Chuck) Terhune of Atascadero, California, and two brothers, Michael (Belinda) Stroud of Trafalgar, and Russell W. Stroud (Jacki) of Bargersville. She also leaves numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, several aunts and uncles and a great-niece. May those angels rejoice in seeing her again!

A private cremation took place in Michigan. There will be a memorial celebration of life at a later date at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Bedford, the church of her childhood.

If you wish to, please make a donation to Make-A-Wish, Michigan, Grand Rapids Area, your local animal shelter or to the ASPCA in her honor. This will honor her love of children and animals.
