Boys soccer

Center Grove blanks Giants

Center Grove recorded its second consecutive shutout by defeating Ben Davis 4-0 on Thursday.

Luke Boha’s goal and two assists were crucial for the Trojans. Other goals were scored by Gus Caito, Jack Neal and Jared Wilkerson. Neal also picked up an assist.

Grizzly Cubs get past Rebels

Fernando Lopez-Perez and Owen Atkison delivered goals for Franklin Community as it defeated Roncalli, 2-1. Assists went to Joe Nerding and Sam VanderVeen.

Goalkeepers Austin Barnard and Dylan Bastin had six and four saves, respectively.

Roncalli advances at sectional

Roncalli defeated Lutheran, 5-0, at the Franklin Central Sectional.

The Rebels dominated all five matches, including singles victories by Jake Evans, Chad Ransburg and Bryson Meek. Roncalli’s doubles teams of Adam Mattingly-Max Huebler and Caleb Spayd-Alex Payne also picked up wins.

Roncalli’s record is 9-11.

Bull Dogs eliminate Lancers

Edinburgh lost, 5-0, to the host Bull Dogs in a semifinal match at the Columbus North Sectional.

In No. 1 singles, the Lancers’ Coltan Henderson lost, 6-1, 6-2, while Carlos Pazmino dropped the No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-0. Edinburgh’s No. 3 singles player, Gavin Hancock also was defeated 6-2, 6-0.

Columbus North won doubles matches against Edinburgh’s Tommy Schneider-Blade Elliott, 6-0, 6-1, and Bladen Hancock-Kegan Jones, 6-0, 6-0.

Girls soccer

Rebels advance at county

Roncalli received two goals from senior midfielder Josie Asher on Wednesday to defeat Lawrence Central 5-1 at the Marion County Tournament.

Sydney Young, Sophia Dietz and Courtney Reece all found the back of the net for the Rebels. Adding to their season assist totals were Reece and senior defender Maddie Scheil.

Franklin College

Grizzlies net home win

The volleyball team relied on a strong hitting attack and stingy defensive play in earning a straight-set victory against visiting Centre College 25-18, 26-24, 27-25 on Wednesday.

A double-double from freshman Kennedy Surface with 12 kills and 18 digs helped lead the Grizzlies. Junior Brooke Harvey tallied a team-high 15 kills.

Senior Ashley Bazier led Franklin College with 22 assists, while freshman Nico Morris added 21 assists. Both players chipped in eight digs in the match.

Sophomore Libby Stahl had a match-high 20 digs, while Surface tallied 18 digs.
