Max Sandmeyer

Max Ray Sandmeyer, 70, of Greenwood, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016.

Born April 12, 1946 in Fort Wayne, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam war, where he was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.

He served on the Illinois State Police for 30 years, retiring in 1993.

He was a member of the American Legion, FOP and the NRA.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Sharon Kay Sandmeyer; children, Candee (Jerry) Myers; stepchildren, Wendy (Robert) Schwartz and BillyJack Mefford; mother, Francis (Slusher) Sandmeyer; three grandchildren, McKenzie Schwartz, Jackson Schwartz and Christian Mefford; and siblings, Duane Sandmeyer, Barbara Perry, Maxine Thatcher and David Sandmeyer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135, followed by the service at 1 p.m.
