Center Grove schools makes calendar change

Center Grove is changing its school calendar next year, based on requests from parents.

School officials surveyed parents at the beginning of the school year about a potential change to the calendar that parents and teachers had suggested. Instead of having students take two weeks off for fall break in October and then another three days off at Thanksgiving, their suggestion was to break up that time off.

After more than half of the survey responses asked for that change, school officials agreed.

School board members unanimously approved changing the school calendar next year.

Students will get one week off for fall break, and one week off at Thanksgiving, under the new calendar.

School board members were pleased with the change. Board member Jack Russell said the issue was one of the top ones he heard about from parents since the school district began using a balanced calendar.
