Man arrested after fleeing deputy

An Indianapolis was arrested after he ran from a deputy, crossing State Road 135, early Saturday morning.

Matthew Benjamin Stephens, 27, 8223 Siear Terrace, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and resisting or interfering with police.

Stephens was driving north on State Road 135 near County Line Road in Greenwood at about 3:15 a.m. Saturday, when a deputy noticed one of the sport utility vehicle’s headlights weren’t working, the report said.

The deputy followed Stephens, who was swerving and going onto the concrete median. The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, and Stephens pulled into a parking lot, got out of the vehicle and ran, the report said.

He ran across State Road 135 when he tripped and was arrested, the report said.

Stephens had a blood alcohol content of .10 percent, the report said.

Stephens was held at the Johnson County jail on $3,000 bond.
