Judy Kay McDowell, 69, lifelong resident of Rush County, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, in Indianapolis.

She was born on Sept. 29, 1946, to the late Theodore and Edna (Ralston) Ruble.

Judy was a 1965 graduate of Milroy High School.

She married Paul McDowell on July 29, 1988; he survives.

Judy was a member of Rushville Baptist Temple. She was a Sunday school teacher in the Moscow Christian Church, Rushville Church of God and at the Rushville Baptist Temple.

Judy loved flowers and spotting the first robins in spring.

Judy worked at the Statehouse in Indianapolis as an accountant. She worked many years in the office at Schnadig Corporation in Rushville and also did office work for many years for home health services.

She is survived by her loving husband, Paul McDowell of Rushville; three stepsons, David Bass of Indianapolis, Chris Bass of Franklin and Eddie McDowell of Franklin; stepdaughter, Chris (Erin) Cupp of Franklin; adopted daughters, Tabatha Messer of Greensburg and Suzanna Orrell of Rushville; brothers, John W. (Mary Jo) Ruble of Waldron, Gary L. (Debbie) Ruble of Yuli, Florida, and Thomas E. (Teresa) Ruble of Rushville; sisters, Joy Hunsinger of Moscow and Cindy McClurg of Milroy; seven grandchildren, Bret and Christopher Bass, Paul, Lori and Megan McDowell, Grace and Brier Cupp; great-granddaughter, Bailey Bass; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Mark Ruble; and her parents.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rushville Baptist Temple, 1335 N. Spencer St., Rushville. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children.
