Area woman killed in crash

A Cordry-Sweetwater area woman has died of injuries from an interstate crash near Columbus earlier this week.

Melissa J. Morris, 48, died Wednesday. She was the backseat passenger in a pickup truck that was caught between two semis in the crash on Interstate 65 near the Columbus exit.

The driver of the truck and another passenger, both of Nashville, were in good condition Thursday. Passenger Barbara Brown, 71, and driver Randall F. Brown, 52, remained at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

The accident happened Wednesday when a tanker truck behind Brown rear-ended the pickup as it slowed for stopped traffic ahead from another accident. The force of the collision pushed the pickup into the back of another semi while the vehicles were on the bridge over State Road 46. The interstate was closed for about four hours after the accident.
