Veterans groups donate flags for court

Three local veterans groups have donated flags from the five branches of military service to a new Greenwood court aimed at helping residents who served.

Flags representing the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard were given to the Greenwood Veterans Court earlier this week. The flags were donated by the Greenwood VFW Post 5864, American Legion Post 252 of Greenwood and the New Whiteland VFW Post 6978.

The goal was to set the atmosphere in the city court, said Brandon Pettijohn, a veteran and the court director. The court hears cases involving veterans only and aims to guide them in rehabilitation and resolving their criminal justice issues, Pettijohn said in a news release.

Pettijohn and Steve Milbourn, Greenwood VFW post commander, came up with the idea to adorn the court in the military flags. The three veterans groups purchased them.
