PHILADELPHIA — Police say a Philadelphia police officer has been charged with trying to send a package in the mail that contained marijuana.

Philadelphia police say internal investigators were notified in January of an allegation about an officer.

Investigators determined 43-year-old Officer William Branish Jr. used an associate’s account at an area business to mail several small packages of marijuana. The mail was returned undeliverable and was received by another company worker.

Police say the 14-year veteran was arrested on Tuesday and charged with simple possession and possession with intent to deliver.

Branish is currently suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss.

It’s not known if he has a lawyer.
