SPOKANE, Wash. — A wrongful death lawsuit is blaming the Riverside School District and the Washington Department of Social and Health in the death of a 5-year-old boy.
The Spokesman-Review reports (http://bit.ly/2cfbmzb ) that the lawsuit, filed on behalf of Gary Blanton III’s grandmother, accuses both the district and the state of failing to spot and report signs of neglect and abuse.
Both DSHS and the Riverside School District declined to comment.
Cynthia Khaleel called 911 on April 17 to report that 5-year-old Gary had fallen out of bed and knocked himself out. The boy later died of brain injuries.
Doctors reported he had a fractured skull and large bruises on his elbow, hip, leg, hip and arm.
Khaleel is charged with second-degree murder.
