WENATCHEE, Wash. — A 21-year-old driver suspected in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 50-year-old bicyclist in July has turned himself into police in Wenatchee.
Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett says Jovany Lopez-Maciel was arrested on a Chelan County Superior Court warrant charging him with hit and run driving involving a death. He was booked into the Chelan County Regional Jail Thursday.
Burnett said a Friday that deputies have been searching for Lopez-Maciel since the July 16 crash that killed Gary Knowlton of Brewster.
Authorities have said that Knowlton riding his bicycle near the Chelan Airport when he was struck by what was believed to be a red truck. The sheriff’s office searched for a red truck with extensive damage to the front end and possibly a broken windshield.
The vehicle was found the next day abandoned in an orchard.
