LAS VEGAS — A police motorcycle officer was hospitalized and a 19-year-old motorist was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after a pre-dawn crash on a busy thoroughfare several miles west of the Las Vegas Strip, authorities said Friday.
David J. Williams was driving a Hyundai Accent sedan that struck the marked police Harley Davidson motorcycle from behind about 4:15 a.m. Friday on Tropicana Avenue near Durango Drive, police said.
Sgt. Richard Strader told reporters the motorcycle officer was taken to University Medical Center, where he was being treated for neck, back and leg injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening.
The 43-year-old officer’s name wasn’t immediately made public.
Williams, of Las Vegas, was being held without bail pending an initial court appearance. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.
Police said Williams wasn’t hurt in the crash, and remained at the scene.
