GREAT FALLS, Mont. — A 33-year-old Poplar man has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in a July 22 death on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation.
Keith Joseph Hanks entered his plea in U.S. District Court on Thursday. He remains in federal custody pending his trial, which is scheduled to start on Nov. 21.
Court records identify the victim by the initials D.J. Leslie Jackson has told the Great Falls Tribune (http://gftrib.com/2cskigL ) that her 19-year-old son, Duran Jackson, was stabbed to death early on July 22 outside a bar. She said her son stepped in as someone tried to stab another person.
Leslie Jackson says her understanding was that her son was stabbed in the neck and torso.
