Police: 3 Franklin garages broken into

At least three garages in Franklin were broken into this week, and police are investigating.

Two break-ins were reported Tuesday morning, and another was reported early Wednesday morning, according to police reports.

The two incidents on Tuesday happened within blocks of each other, in the 600 block of Walnut Street and the first block of Banta Street, which are both off U.S. 31 near Franklin Community High School.

The third on Wednesday was reported in the 1200 block of Matthews Court in the Cumberland Trails neighborhood off Westview Drive.

At the home on Walnut Street, residents reported someone had broken into the garage but did not find anything missing. On Banta Street, several items that were stolen, including alcohol and ammunition, were found in a duffel bag in the backyard of a nearby home, according to police reports.

Just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, a couple on Matthews Court reported hearing their alarm beep and the residents found their garage door open. They found the thief or thieves had used their garage door opener to get in and had taken a tablet from a vehicle, the report said.

Franklin police are investigating.
