PLAINS, Pa. — A former high school teacher in northeastern Pennsylvania has been charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old student.

Colleen McGarry faces charges including institutional sexual assault, corruption of a minor and unlawful contact with a minor. She remains jailed on $100,000 bail and is expected in court next week.

Police say contact between the 45-year-old McGarry and the student began last year while McGarry was the girl’s math teacher at Pittston Area High School in Yatesville.

Police say McGarry stayed at the girl’s home for several nights while her father was away. They say she has admitted to multiple sexual assaults, including once in the teen’s bedroom.

McGarry has been fired. It’s not known if she has a lawyer.
