KALISPELL, Mont. — A 23-year-old Kalispell woman has reached a plea agreement to charges filed after the February 2015 death of her 2-year-old son.

The Flathead Beacon reports (http://bit.ly/2cYfa4P ) Takara Juntunen has agreed to plead guilty to negligent homicide. Prosecutors charged Juntunen for leaving Forrest Groshelle in the care of Brandon Newberry despite knowing he was being abused and for failing to seek medical help before he died of poisoning due to a lacerated small intestine.

Court records say a change of plea hearing is set for Oct. 3. Prosecutors are expected to recommend a 20-year sentence with the Department of Corrections with 15 suspended and that she be treated for substance abuse. A drug possession charge is to be dismissed.

Newberry is serving a 40-year prison sentence for mitigated deliberate homicide in the boy’s death.
