BATON ROUGE, La. — Baton Rouge police say a 69-year-old woman shoved to the floor by a burglar in early August died last week at a medical rehabilitation facility.

Sgt. L’Jean McKneely said in a news release Tuesday detectives are now investigating her death as a homicide.

McKneely says Earnestine Johnson confronted a burglar inside a friend’s home on Aug. 11.

He says Johnson, who lived nearby, was keeping an eye on the house for the owner who was out of town at the time. After she noticed the front door open while driving by, Johnson got out to look inside the house and came across the burglar.

Police say the unidentified burglar attacked Johnson, throwing her to the floor where she struck her head.
