Kenneth E. “Kenney” Elkins

Kenneth E. “Kenney” Elkins, 79, passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 11, 2016, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Brown County.

Kenney was born on Feb. 13, 1937, in Courtland, to the late Kenneth E. Ault and Alma Mae (Elkins) Mahoney. He attended Washington High School in Indianapolis and later married Sheron J. Parson on May 3, 1958, in Indianapolis. She lovingly survives after 58 devoted years of marriage.

Kenney worked for Penn Central and Amtrak Railroad as a coachman for 38 years, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, tending to his tomato garden and reading books, especially author Bill O’Reilly. Kenney enjoyed car racing and played on a bowling league in Beech Grove in his younger years. He was past member of the Indiana Railroad Union as well as a past member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Morgantown.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Sheron Elkins of Brown County; children, Karen Maschak of Vine Grove, Kentucky, Cheryl (David) Golden, Kenneth Elkins II and Cyndi (Chris) Harrison, all of Franklin; grandchildren, Thresica (John) Washington of San Antonio, Texas, Jason and Jaycob Maschak, both of Vine Grove, Kentucky, Chase Golden of Greenwood, Quinton Golden of Franklin, Josh, Jennie and Melissa McCloud, all of Columbus, Kendyl and Isabelle Harrison, both of Franklin; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Kenney was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Joe Mahoney, Carol Wickline, Wanda Jones and son-in-law, Jay Maschak.

The Rev. Ed Tharpe will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
