NEW WHITELAND

Leroy Hackett Jr., 86, of New Whiteland, passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2016.

He was born April 20, 1930, in Sullivan County, to Leroy and Ruby Hackett.

Leroy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and National Guard for 36 years. He worked for General Motors (Allison’s Transmission) for 42 years and for Access of Johnson County driving buses for 11 years. Leroy also helped his wife, Norma Jean, babysit more than 53 children.

He took excellent care of Norma Jean in the later stages of her life. He coached baseball a number of years for the Whiteland Little League. He loved playing cards and enjoyed being with his family and celebrating good times. Leroy enjoyed family get-togethers while sharing a good meal.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Norma Jean; parents, Leroy Hackett and Ruby Hix, and brother, Raymond Hackett.

Leroy is survived by his sister, Brenda (Rodger) Wall; sons, Michael (Vallerie) Hackett and Marc (Barbie) Hackett; daughter, Patti Hackett, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Landon (Crystal), Colby, Bradley (Mary), Brianna (Matt), Jesse and Justin (Sarah); great grandchildren, Aubrey, Everett, Sylas and Esme; and special lady friend, Barbara Roe.

A Celebration of Life will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Flowers are appreciated.
