Delmar C. Olston Jr.

GREENWOOD

Delmar C. Olston Jr., 70, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at his home in Greenwood.

Born Aug. 17, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Delmar C. Olston Sr. and June B. (Mentz) Olston, he was a 1964 Morgantown High School graduate. He attended Indiana Central (University of Indianapolis), where he met the love of his life Pamela J. Grischow. They graduated in May of 1968 and were married Aug. 10, 1968. Del received his Master’s in Education from Indiana State.

He taught health, physical education and was the athletic trainer at Southport High School for 42 years, before retiring in 2010. He also owned and operated Decks by Del in Central Indiana.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served on the school board and was a member of the choir. He also sang with The Voices, Summer Singers and Barbershop Quartets and played the tuba.

An outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling.

He was passionate about his family and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He will be loved and missed always by his wife of 48 years, Pamela (Grischow) Olston; two children, Jeff Olston (Leslie) and Jenny Olston; two sisters, Barb Knowles and Donna (Don) Huntsman; five grandchildren, Elijah, Tyler, Grace, Ruby and Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brother, Kenneth Olston.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens at Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Rev. Kurt Ebert will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 6111 S. Shelby St., Indianapolis, where additional visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
