Meal planned to remember 9/11

Government workers, law enforcement officers and other emergency crews are invited to a meal in remembrance of the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

And a memorial has been installed at a Greenwood cemetery. Speakers will give a presentation at a park in New Whiteland.

Here are the details on the events.

Proctor Park

Post commanders of the New Whiteland VFW and town, police and fire officials will present a ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday at Proctor Park.

The service will include a lighting of the candle, a gun salute and the playing of Taps.

A lunch will follow the service at the New Whiteland VFW Post, 215 N. U.S. 31.

Greenwood VFW Post No. 5864

What: Remembrance luncheon

When: noon to 2 p.m. Friday

For: Government workers, police and fire, emergency crews

Where: At the post, 333 S. Washington St., Greenwood

9/11 Memorial

The Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery and Mausoleum Park will have tours of a memorial that notes the terrorist attacks and lives lost.

A memorial wreath will be placed and private tours of the memorial will be given at cemetery, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood.

The memorial includes items from all three terrorist attack sites.

Tours are individually guided. The grounds will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
