Martha J. (James) Holmes Ginn Rigney

Martha J. (James) Holmes Ginn Rigney, 89, of the Franklin United Methodist Community passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2016.

She was born April 8, 1927, in Louisville, Kentucky to William Edward James and Fauntine Gyneth (Lucas) James.

She married Rev. Robert Holmes on June 1, 1946, in Floyd County, and he preceded her in death Oct. 9, 2001. She then married William “Ed” Ginn on May 10, 2003, and he preceded her in death March 16, 2011. She later married Claud Rigney on Oct. 5, 2013, and he preceded her in death on March 28, 2016.

She was a graduate of Asbury College. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin. She had been a kindergartner teacher at Indianapolis Public School No. 7.

She also served alongside her husband Rev. Robert Holmes within the United Methodist Church in Indiana. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing bridge, board games, and especially traveling.

Survivors include her daughter, Jae Lynne Riedeman (Paul) of Greensburg; four sons, William R. Holmes of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mark Holmes of Greensburg, R. Michael Holmes (Liz) of West Lafayette and Brent Alan Holmes (Suzan) of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and one sister, Jean Loy of Louisville, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and two brothers, William Earl James and Edward Lucas James.

The Rev. John Eley will conduct a memorial service at 6 p.m. Friday at the Wright Chapel of the Franklin United Methodist Community, 1070 W. Jefferson St., Franklin. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until service time Friday at the Wright Chapel. Inurnment will take place in Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
