Chester Ray (JR) Grogan

FRANKLIN

Chester Ray (JR) Grogan, 62, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at his residence in Franklin.

JR was born on Oct. 10, 1953, in Bloomington to Chester Ray Grogan Sr. and Nancy Elizabeth (Kerr) Grogan. He was a 1971 graduate of Edgewood High School and attended Ivy Tech in Bloomington.

After graduation, JR worked at RCA from 1971 to 1997 and was a member of the IBEW. After RCA, he worked for Eli Lilly, retiring in 2009. After retirement, he held a security position for Greenwood Mall.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister, Ann Elizabeth Grogan.

JR is survived by his daughters, Kari Jeane’Rowley (Damian) of Franklin and McKenzie Elizabeth Grogan of Greenwood; three sisters, Betty (Grogan) Fiscus (Steve), Carolyn Lee (Grogan) Anderson of Spencer, Lynette (Grogan) Weber (Chris) of Bloomington; two brothers, William Grogan (Laura) of Gosport, and Benjamin Grogan of Ellettsville; four grandchildren, Madison Rowley, Daniel Rowley, Devin Rowley and Lillianna Grogan; and several, very special nieces and nephews.

He was loved and respected by everyone. JR loved spending time with family and friends. He loved line dancing and was a line dancing instructor. While working at RCA, he was active in the Clothe-A-Child. He loved softball and auctions. His passion was playing Santa Claus at all of the family’s Christmas events. To his nieces and nephews, he will always be Santa Claus.

A Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. at The Life Church, 3575 North Prow Road, Bloomington, with Rev. Carolyn Anderson officiating.
