State senator joins sales team

Tilson, a Greenwood-based human resources and management company, recently announced the employment of state Sen. Erin Houchin to its sales team.

Houchin, who represents District 47 in Indiana, will work as business development manager.

Before being elected state senator, Houchin served as southeast regional director for U.S. Sen. Dan Coats, working as a liaison between business interests and the senator’s office. She also has worked as a family case manager for the Indiana Department of Child Services and program director for the Community Alliance Promoting Education through the Scott County Partnership.

Houchin represents Washington, Harrison, Perry, Orange and Crawford counties and part of Dubois County.

Houchin earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Indiana University and a master’s degree in political management from The George Washington University.

Learn how to develop a nonprofit

Leadership Johnson County invites nonprofit staff and board members to attend a series designed to teach best practices for developing nonprofit agencies.

Moderated by Carolyn Goerner, clinical professor of management at the Kelley School of Business in Bloomington, the three-day course will focus on principals of strengths-based leadership, nonprofit finance, fundraising, legal responsibilities and strategic planning.

The event will be held at Franklin College, 101 Branigin Blvd., Franklin on Sept. 16, 23 and 30. The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Cost to attend the Board Governance Series is $395 per person. Scholarships are available.
