Murals finished in county communities

Three new murals have been completed and hung in downtown Franklin, Bargersville and Greenwood.

The Johnson County Community Foundation’s “Color the County” mural program had a competition for area artists to design murals for three locations in the county. And all three murals have now been installed across the county.

Franklin’s mural, designed by Gordon Strain, called “Summer Days,” featuring children blowing bubbles is on the west side of the courthouse annex building, 86 W. Court St., Franklin.

Amber Berninger’s landscape-themed mural is hung at 10 S. Baldwin St., Bargersville.

Greenwood’s mural, designed by Amy Hommell, features mandalas and trees. That mural, the final one to be completed, can be seen at 189 W. Main St.

The Johnson County Community Foundation wanted to start the mural program to celebrate the foundation’s 25th anniversary with art and culture, said Kim Minton, the foundation’s vice president for development.

“We wanted to do something very visible and very collaborative,” she said.
