Boys tennis

Braves improve to 5-3

Indian Creek recorded a 5-0 victory at Edgewood on Tuesday to move to 5-3 on the season.

Trace Zachery won his No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-4, while the Braves’ Cole Harris also won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Dalton Campbell was dominant at No. 3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0.

Bryce Waddell and Scott Russell took care of business for Indian Creek at No. 1 doubles, rallying for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 win. Cody Hart and Jeremy Lee won at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, 6-2.

Wildcats edge Center Grove

Center Grove came up short against conference rival Lawrence North, losing by a score of 3-2.

Points for the Trojans were from No. 3 singles player Akul Vijayvargiya, who won his match, 6-0, 6-2; and the No. 2 doubles team of Grant Herron and Mason Runkle, 6-4, 6-2.

Rebels defeat Beech Grove

Roncalli improved its record to 2-4 by shutting out Southside rival Beech Grove.

The host Rebels’ No. 1 singles player, Jake Evans, defeated Connor Carter, 6-1, 6-0. The No. 2 singles match was won by Roncalli’s Chad Ransburg against the Hornets’ Tyler Griffith, 6-2, 6-1.

Bryson Meek won his No. 3 singles match against Ted Hardesty, 6-0, 6-0.

Roncalli’s top doubles team of Adam Mattingly and Max Huebler won its match, as did the No. 2 tandem of Alex Payne and Ryan Heckman.

Greenwood Christian falls

Sophia Valant shot a 53 for Greenwood Christian Academy, but it wasn’t enough as the Cougars lost to Decatur Central 187-240.

The next-lowest score for Greenwood Christian was Jessica Kjerstand with a 60. Teammates Allison Christie with a 61 and Sky Rathz with a 66 also competed.

Girls soccer

Gorgievski leads Cougars

Paula Gorgievski scored three goals for Greenwood Christian Academy in its 6-0 victory against Broad Ripple.

The Cougars’ other goals were scored by Cameron Northern, Sarah Honaker and Andrea Cottinghim. Grace Apgar was credited with an assist on Cottinghim’s goal.

Volleyball

Southport downs Braves in 4 games

Southport scores a 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 25-13 victory against Indian Creek.

Morgan Hogue finished with 14 digs and five kills for the Braves. Setter Malea Brownfield contributed 33 assists with Taylor Burkett adding eight kills. Sara Knight had six kills and 13 digs for Indian Creek, while Tori Travers had 12 digs.
