Construction begins next week on the first phase of a three-year project to rebuild Jefferson and King streets through Franklin.

What will be closed: Crews will close the section of Jefferson Street between the Admiral gas station and Main Street beginning Monday, through December. For the last two weeks of the project in December, crews will close the intersection of Main and Jefferson streets.

What drivers can expect: No traffic will be allowed through the closed area. Traffic will be detoured north on Walnut Street and Home Avenue to go east and west on King Street.

What pedestrians can expect: Walkers, bikers and joggers will be detoured onto Madison Avenue, and can use Water and Walnut streets to come back to Jefferson Street. Temporary sidewalks will be put in place so customers can still reach local businesses.

What’s next: This is phase one of a multi-phase project. Up next, work will move west, between the gas station and U.S. 31. That project is set for March to July of next year.
