Be a superhero by joining 5K run

Local residents will have the chance to dress up like Superman or Batman, all while helping do superhero work in their communities.

The Center for Global Impact, a local nonprofit working to end human trafficking, will host the annual Empower 5K and Superhero Fun Run at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero for the race, which will start at the Franklin Cultural Arts and Recreation Center, 396 Branigin Blvd. Prizes will be awarded for best-dressed hero.

The race is a partnership between Franklin Parks and Recreation and the Center for Global Impact. The Greenwood-based organization operates the byTavi Boutique in downtown Franklin to also raise money for its mission.

Registration is $25 for participants 13 and older, and $15 for those 12 and younger. People can sign up for the race starting at 9 a.m., and a free Zumba class at 9:30 a.m. will help loosen up runners.
