Donald R. Hendricks

Donald R. Hendricks, 87, passed away Monday evening, Aug. 15, 2016, in Greenwood. He was a resident of Greenwood.

He was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Franklin to Ray F. and Mary Jane (Mathena) Hendricks.

He married Joann Henry on Dec. 5, 1954. She preceded him in passing on Oct. 31, 2013.

Don is survived by two daughters, Cheryl L. Hillock and Beth Ann Hendricks; grandchildren, Matt (Alisa) Hillock, Andy (Cheryl) Hillock, Cara Smith, Zachary Brown and Jacob Brown; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; wife, Joann; and son-in-law, John Hillock.

Don was a 1947 graduate of Center Grove High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He retired from Eli Lilly and Co. after many years of dedicated service.

Don was a lifetime member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder, deacon and trustee. Don loved his church very much, and always strived to keep it the same, as he had always known it. He loved the old hymns that he had always known throughout all of his years at Hopewell.

He served for many years on the Hopewell Cemetery Board and was a 50-plus year member of the Union Village Masonic Lodge No. 545, F&AM. He also was a member of the Stones Crossing Lodge of Knights of Pythias No. 464.

Rev. Brad Moger will conduct a celebration of life at 11 a.m. Friday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 548 W. 100N, Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. in Franklin and 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening by the Union Village Masonic Lodge No. 545 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy and the Franklin American Legion Post No. 205.
