Franklin girls dominate opening meet

The Edinburgh, Franklin and Greenwood cross-country teams began their season at the Blue River Early Bird in Shelbyville.

Franklin’s girls turned in a dominating effort, running away from the field and posting a team score of 32 points. Franklin Central was a distant second with 80, while Greenwood finished seventh in the girls race with 140.

Emma Treibic was the overall individual winner for the Grizzly Cubs, while Alexandra Boardman placed fourth. Emma Beavins was sixth, and Abby Burton and Caroline Riessen took 10th and 11th, respectively, to round out the scoring.

Carly Sandrock (17th) and Maggie Auger (23rd) also had strong runs for Franklin.

Emily Davis was the top finisher for the Edinburgh girls, placing 77th overall with a time of 28 minutes, 18.33 seconds. Blythe Carman (86th), Destiney Ramey (92nd) and Lili Ervin (99th) also placed in the top 100.

Lancers win volleyball opener

Twice down a game, the Edinburgh volleyball team dug deep to pull out a five-set victory at Jac-Cen-Del in its season-opener, 20-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20, 15-13.
