Police: Search on for man taking photos in bathroom

A man is suspected of taking photos of two boys while they were using a restroom in a Greenwood store, and police want the public’s help identifying him.

The incident happened the evening of July 30 at a Greenwood shopping center off U.S. 31. Two teenage boys were using the urinal with their backs to the stalls, and they turned to see a man in a stall holding his phone over the door taking their photo.

They told their mother, who told store management and called police.

Police are asking the public to help identify the man, Greenwood Assistant Chief Matt Fillenwarth said.

“He’s a public safety risk,” Fillenwarth said. “He’s victimizing children. Nothing is more heinous than that.”

The boys are 14 and 15 years old, Fillenwarth said.

Surveillance video captured photos of the man in the store and the mother said he was driving a blue older model Toyota without hubcaps, according to Greenwood police.

Police searched the area the day of the incident but could not find the suspect. Detectives have been investigating since then, including contacting a national database that collects information on suspects and vehicles that could be used in committing crimes against children.
