Robert E. “Bud” Swickard Sr., of New Whiteland, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, in Franklin.
Bud was born March 25, 1931, in Terre Haute, to Carl Sr. and Alice (Benjamin) Swickard.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
He married Darla Gordon Bengtson on March 9, 1991, in Indianapolis. They were married for 25 years.
Bud was employed with The Indianapolis Star newspaper for 47 years as a printer, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of Suburban Baptist Church in Indianapolis. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Bud helped in many building projects at Indiana Baptist College and at his church.
Survivors include his wife, Darla Swickard of New Whiteland; four children, Robert (Michelle) Swickard Jr., Michael Swickard, Kenneth Swickard and Matthew Swickard; three stepchildren, Rachael Barmes, Nina Wood and Aaron Bengtson; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Ted Swickard, Jack Swickard and Carl Swickard Jr.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 North, with visitation from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
