Greenwood OKs funding for sidewalks, road near proposed distillery

A Greenwood board has OK’d using property tax dollars to pay for an access road and sidewalks for a planned distillery.

The $170,000 approved by the Greenwood Redevelopment Commission will come from the city’s tax-increment financing district, which collects property taxes from new development in a specific area.

The road and sidewalks are needed for Dragon Rock Distillery, a craft distillery, brewery, restaurant and warehouse for spirits planned for 12 acres on Main Street, east of Interstate 65. Owner Dave Hunter hopes the business will become a destination.

The spending was approved 5-0.

Construction on the $7 million project is expected to begin later this year or early next year.
