Homemade bomb found in mailbox near Trafalgar

Police were called to a home near Trafalgar after a resident found a homemade bomb in his mailbox.

Sheriff’s deputies were called at noon Monday to the home in the 1000 block of County Road 375S, near Trafalgar. The resident had found a cylinder-shaped object wrapped in black tape in his mailbox.

He had moved it to his truck so he could throw it away and then decided to call police, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

The device looked like a sparkler bomb, which makes an explosive out of multiple sparklers, the report said.

Members of the sheriff’s office explosive device team were called. They removed the item and brought it to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies also collected fingerprints, the report said.
