Woman arrested after short pursuit

A Whiteland woman was arrested after police said she swerved in traffic and didn’t stop for officers on U.S. 31 on Sunday.

Stevie M. Bastian, 25, 3250 Limber Pine Drive, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content of .08 percent or more and resisting law enforcement.

Police were called to Tracy Road and U.S. 31 at 6 p.m. Sunday about a vehicle that was all over the road. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it continued until more police joined the pursuit, according to the report from New Whiteland police.

Once the vehicle stopped, officers had Bastian take field sobriety tests, and then gave her a breath test. Her blood-alcohol content was .25 percent, more than three times the legal limit for driving a vehicle, the report said.

Bastian was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital to be checked, and then was taken to the Johnson County jail, where she was held on $3,200 bond.
