Rita Ann Norwood

Rita Ann Norwood, 72, of Greenwood, lived a long and full life, dedicated to God. She always said, “The Lord is always on time.” She was called to her heavenly home on Friday morning, Aug. 5, 2016.

Rita was born Nov. 20, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, raised in Springfield, Illinois and lived her best years in Greenwood. 

She was a loyal and founding member of Grace Assembly of God Church in New Whiteland. For a time, she and her husband led youth ministries at Southport Heights Christian Church. She was a nurse, a nursing instructor, a counselor and leader of women’s ministries. She later founded Angelcare, a non-profit organization dedicated to the lives of unborn children. Rita was a strong, vivacious and loving woman who honored God and her family every day of her life.

Rita was blessed with a large and loving family, leaving behind her devoted husband of almost 43 years, James Norwood. She is also survived by her son, Douglas Glasscock with his wife Rita, of Blue Springs, Missouri; her daughter, Deanna Sauter with her husband John, of Beech Grove; her son, Gregory Norwood with his wife Jessica, of Greenwood; her daughter Sherry Parrish, of Greenwood, along with seven grandchildren: Mariah Sutton with her husband Zach, of Nashville, Tennessee., Sierra Glasscock, of Blue Springs, Mississippi, Chelsea and Taylor Norwood of Greenwood, Courteney and Casey Fentz of Fortville, and Thomas Sauter of Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by her grandson Bryan Fentz and her mother Doris Guthrie.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135 and Olive Branch Road. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Assembly of God Church, 6822 N. US 31, New Whiteland.
