City council approves new restrictions on fireworks use

Next year, new rules will apply to when fireworks can be set off in Greenwood.

The Greenwood City Council unanimously approved putting restrictions on when fireworks can be shot off after getting dozens of fireworks complaints since July 4.

Under the new rules, fireworks can be set off only between June 24 and July 11 and on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

City council members wanted to take action after getting multiple complaints from residents about Independence Day celebrations that have gone on for weeks after the holiday.

Council members said they had heard from multiple residents in support of the new rules since they first discussed them last month.
