Local girls can join Girl Sco

utsLocal Girl Scouts are calling all girls in kindergarten to Grade 12 and their families to learn more about the organization.

Girl Scouts is adding girls to existing troops and forming new troops for ages kindergarten through high school. The troops are also recruiting adult volunteers. Two recruitment nights are planned.

The first begins at 6 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Greenwood Pubic Library, 310 S. Meridian St. The next night also begins at 6 p.m. and will be Aug. 31 at White River Library, 1664 Library Blvd., Greenwood.

If you cannot make one of these nights but are interested in learning more about Girl Scouts, please contact Stacey Rozmin at 317-924-6889.

Students place at national conference

Students from Johnson County competed at the National Junior Shorthorn Show and Youth Conference in early July.Youngsters from all across the nation exhibited their animals and projects in divisions such as refurbished arts and crafts, herdsman quiz bowl and team showmanship.

Local winners include:

Reagan Ferris, Whiteland: Top honors in Prospector I age division; arts and crafts contest, photography contest, graphic design contest and team salesmanship. Ferris also was named as a high point individual in his division.

Xavier Ferris, Whiteland: Top honors in the Intermediate age division; arts and crafts contest, digital photography contest, graphic design contest and team fitting contest. Ferris was also named as a high point individual in his division.
