Area man arrested on charge of battery

A Franklin man was arrested after police said he struggled and fought with officers.

Jacob L. Gonterman, 24, 721 Samuel St., was arrested on a charge of domestic battery, resisting law enforcement and battery on a public safety official.

Franklin police were called to a home on Samuel Street just before 3 a.m. Friday, where a woman reported Gonterman had been fighting with another woman in the home, grabbed her and pushed her to the ground, according to the police report.

Gonterman told police the argument had never become physical, and when officers arrested him and tried to bring him outside, he began fighting against them, the report said.

Officers struggled with Gonterman, and Gonterman kicked one officer multiple times. During the struggle, Gonterman’s chin hit the pavement. An ambulance was called and Gonterman was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for stitches, the report said.

Relatives of Gonterman’s at a neighboring home began yelling at officers and the women at the home. Officers broke up the altercation and sent everyone home.

Gonterman was taken to the Johnson County jail after receiving treatment, and was held on a $6,400 bond.
