Homes evacuated after gas line cut

The Greenwood Fire Department evacuated homes after workers cut a gas line in the Center Grove area on Wednesday afternoon.

Residents of three homes at Stonegate Drive and Apple Valley Road off State Road 135 were evacuated for less than an hour, Greenwood Fire Department assistant chief Brad Coy said. Other nearby residents were asked to stay in their homes. The incident happened about 2 p.m.

The area is just south of County Line Road.

Crews working on the roadway and doing concrete repairs cut a gas line, Greenwood fire chief Darin Hoggatt said. The gas leak had been stopped by 2:45 p.m. by Vectren workers, who will still need to replace the line, Coy said.

Traffic already was limited due to the roadwork, but all traffic was stopped in the neighborhood because the gas line cut was in the middle of the Stonegate and Apple Valley intersection, Coy said.
