Police: Greenwood man arrested after stabbing

A man was arrested after police said he stabbed an acquaintance during an altercation.

Patrick E. McCoin, 25, 7248 W. Stones Crossing Road, Lot 106, Greenwood, was arrested on a charge of battery.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to a mobile home community off Stones Crossing Road just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday, where a man reported he had been stabbed.

Randy Grubb told deputies that McCoin, who is married to Grubb’s stepdaughter, had stabbed him in the arm while he was getting his mail. Grubb told police he recently fired McCoin, which made McCoin angry, according to the report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies spoke with McCoin, who said he and Grubb got into an altercation after Grubb slapped his vehicle and then hit McCoin in the face and head, the report said.

McCoin told deputies he pulled out a knife to scare Grubb, but the sheath fell off, and he accidentally cut Grubb’s arm, the report said.

Grubb told deputies he did not want to make an official statement, because he didn’t want McCoin to get in trouble, the report said.

McCoin was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $3,300 bond.
