David Zane Manning

David Zane Manning, 74, passed away peacefully Friday morning, July 22, 2016, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. He was a resident of Brown County.

David was born Aug. 6, 1941, at home in Morgan County, to the late Percy R. and Nellie Ruth (Ellett) Manning.

David served his country by enlisting with the U.S. Air Force.

He married LaVerne Faye Lester on June 22, 1969, in Spearsville. She lovingly survives after 47 devoted years of marriage.

David worked in the maintenance department for Johnson Memorial Hospital, International Harvester in Franklin and the Abe Martin Lodge in Brown County. He also worked as a part-time mechanic for Claude’s Gas Station in Morgantown.

David was a lifetime member of the Spearsville Christian Church.

He enjoyed being in the outdoors and would spend his time by fishing and working in his vegetable garden. David liked to play cards, visit with friends and family and loved to travel to Homosassa, Florida.

He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; children, Laura (Jon) Brennan and James Manning; grandchildren, Brandon Hopkins, Kayla Brennan and Maikala Brennan; great-grandchild, CharlieLou Brennan; and sister, Alice Stone

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Ralph and Boyd Manning and Mary Dine.

The Rev. Darrell Miller will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m.  Tuesday, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spearsville Christian Church Cemetery with military rites presented by the Brown County Honor Guard.
