Vehicle stolen from gas station recovered

Stolen vehicle found in Indy

A vehicle that was stolen from a Center Grove area gas station earlier this week has been found.

The work van was stolen from the gas station at State Road 37 and Smith Valley Road just after 7 a.m. Monday and was found on the southside of Indianapolis near Shelby Street and Troy Avenue, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

A man told police he had left the vehicle running while he went inside the store and when he came out the vehicle was gone. The man also reported that he had tools and a laptop computer inside the vehicle, the sheriff’s office report said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating and wanted to look into what shape the stolen vehicle was in and what was taken from the vehicle.

Theft report leads to sheriff’s investigation

The sheriff’s office is investigating a theft reported at a Center Grove area home.

Deputies were called to the home near Smith Valley and Morgantown roads around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, and the residents reported a man had forced his way into a window of the home and had a gun, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

When deputies arrived, the residents were outside the home in the 4700 block of Welton Street and said the man and at least two others with him had left in a dark-colored van, and later said they left in a white work van, the report said.

Investigators searched the home and got statements from the residents and two children inside the home, the report said.

Shortly after they left, deputies were called back again by the residents who said the men had returned. One of the deputies was seconds away, and saw no one at the home when he arrived, the report said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating.
