Two bridges will close, and another will have lane closures as work begins to repair and maintain them in the coming weeks.

Beginning next week, lanes will close on the bridge over the Big Blue River on U.S. 31 near Edinburgh.

Work is set to begin on Monday on the $464,000 project to put in a new bridge surface. While that work is being done, crews will need to close lanes on the bridge for the rest of the month, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Next month, two other bridges will close for similar work.

The bridge over the Big Blue River on State Road 252, and the bridge over Prong Stotts Creek on State Road 44, west of State Road 135 near Trafalgar, will both close for about two weeks, the release said.

Crews will be removing the surface of each bridge, and laying a new one with a special mixture meant to improve friction and make it easier to maneuver and stop on the bridges, the release said.
