Wilma Louise (Dowden) McKeel

INDIANAPOLIS

Wilma Louise (Dowden) McKeel, 101, of Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2015, at Robin Run Village in Indianapolis.

She was born Jan. 22, 1915, in Carmi, Illinois to Claude Roscoe Dowden and Mary Alice (Porter) Dowden.

She married Frank B. McKeel on July 1, 1938, in Indianapolis; he preceded her in death March 8, 1986.

She was a 1932 graduate of Center Grove High School and prior to her death, the oldest known graduate.

She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church.

She enjoyed gardening, arts, crafts and traveling.

She was a homemaker and also co-owned and operated the Carriage House by the Pines in Greenwood for a few years.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen S. Schnyder and her partner, John Butler of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Brian McKeel (Stacie) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathleen Jordan (Matthew) of Columbus, Ohio, and Jeremy Schnyder (Ingrid) of Denver, Colorado; six great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Jane McKeel of Hamilton, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Michael McKeel; a brother, Carl Dowden; and sisters, Myrtle Dowden and Effie York.

The Rev. Dennis Patton will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Friday at Southport Baptist Church, 2901 E. Banta Road, Indianapolis. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the service time at the church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
