Mary M. (Derleth) McGinnis

GREENWOOD

Mary M. (Derleth) McGinnis, 90, of Greenwood, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016, at her residence in Greenwood.

She was born on Dec. 29, 1925, in Indianapolis to George and Margaret (Wagner) Derleth.

She married James A. McGinnis on Oct. 21, 1951, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Indianapolis; he survives.

She attended the former St. Catherine of Siena grade school on Indianapolis’s near southside and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Vincent’s School of Nursing.

She served as a nurse at St. Vincent Hospital on Fall Creek in Indianapolis and was the charge nurse for the medical surgery floor at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, having cared for many patients in her career span.

She and Jim were blessed to spend 65 years together filled with adventures.

She was always one to tell a story or crack a joke on her back porch swing.

She was loved and will be missed by her surviving family, husband, James A. McGinnis of Greenwood; sons, Greg McGinnis (Linda) of Indianapolis, Gary McGinnis (Debbie) of Greenwood and Kevin McGinnis (Cindy) of Greenwood; a daughter, Mary Kay Bishop (Michael) of Greenwood; and she and Jim were also blessed with 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Donald Joseph McGinnis; a twin sister, Martha Riccobono, and sister Catherine Cord; and two brothers, Clem Derleth and Al Derleth.

Father James M. Brockmeier will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday at Saints Francis and Clare Catholic Church, 5901 Olive Branch Road, Greenwood. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.
