NEW WHITELAND, IN.

Betty Jean (Brock) Smith, 81, of New Whiteland, IN passed away Sunday February 14, 2021 and received her wings and went to sing with the angels. She was born June 22, 1939 in Beverly, Kentucky to Claudie and Susie (Saylor) Brock. She married her first love, Donald Smith Sr. on June 22, 1955 in Taswell, TN. He preceded her in death on February 2, 1992. They moved to New Whiteland, IN in 1963 and raised six children there.

Betty loved babies, the elderly, animals, anything purple and music especially 1950’s rock and roll. Within her family, her homemade biscuits and gravy are legendary.

Betty worked for many years at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. While employed there, she genuinely loved those in her care. One of her favorite sayings was, "If you can’t say something nice about someone, don’t say anything at all". A lesson all should heed in this day and age.

She is survived by her children Rhonda Rice (Bill) of Calvin, KY, Claude Smith (Barbara) of Palm Bay, FL, Susie Carroll (Patrick) of Kingsland, GA, Donnie Smith (Kim) of Taylorsville, IN, James Smith (Cathy) of Jeffersonville, IN and Earsel Smith (Kelly) of Shelbyville, IN, 12 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and a sister Harroldeen Smith of South Amherst, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Ed Brock, Verna Head, Julie Helton, Minnie Brock, Myrtle Grove, Celettia Helton and Lucy Rogers.

A service will be conducted on Monday February 22, 2021 at 6PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed for family and friends to connect at <a href="http://www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/betty-smith">www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/betty-smith</a>. Please use Firefox Internet or Google Chrome for optimal viewing. Friends may call Monday February 22, 2021 from 5PM until service time at the mortuary. Due to COVID-19 mandates, facial coverings, mask and social distancing is required for those attending. A private family graveside service will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
