Robert Arthur Rummel

WHITELAND

Robert Arthur Rummel, 61, of Whiteland, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016, in Indianapolis.

Robert was born Dec. 10, 1954, in Great Lakes, Illinois, to Robert S. and Frances D. (McComas) Rummel.

He was a U. S. Navy veteran. As a Naval Senior Chief, he served in the Vietnam conflict and Gulf Wars during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield until retiring in August of 1995 after 24 years of service.

He volunteered with the employer support of the guard and reserve, the USO and Indiana chapter of the Association of the United States Army.

Robert was employed with Army One Source as a community support coordinator from 2008 to 2014.

Robert enjoyed traveling, reading, shooting and was an avid outdoorsman. He especially loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Maria (Lopez) Rummel of Whiteland; his mother, Frances D. Rummel of California; four children, Noelani (Jesse) Lucio of Texas, Melanie (John) Aguon of California, Valerie (Victor) Vargas of Illinois and Robert Julius Rummel of California; sister, Rosemarie (Sandy Morris) Rummel of North Carolina; two brothers, Tom Rummel of California and Charles Rummel of North Carolina; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert S. Rummel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 North, with visitation from 4 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
